A new study from Barclays reveals that mobile-ready online businesses generated more than a quarter of their revenue from mobile last year.

According to the Barclays Online Business Outlook 2013 report, online businesses saw a massive 34% increase in mobile traffic last year. What’s more, those businesses that had invested in a mobile-ready website confirmed that last year 27.8% of their revenue was generated from mobile.

It’s a trend that Barclays expects to escalate, thanks to the imminent roll out of new 4G networks across the UK which will make mobile browsing faster and easier for more and more consumers.

The arrival of 4G will ‘turbo charge’ UK mobile networks, making it more convenient for Brits using a mobile device to search, purchase or access social media online. The new 4G networks mean that smartphone and tablet users will be able to experience ‘superfast’ download speeds up to 10 times faster than current speeds.

All of which should further fuel demand for ‘on the go’ services from consumers who today are frustrated by current mobile network speeds. According to new research from ebay, 50.3% of consumers confirm that mobile speed is an issue for them.

Get your business mobile-ready

The 4G mobile network revolution means that UK businesses need to be ready to take advantage of new opportunities.

Shockingly, however, the Barclays research reveals that the majority of UK businesses are still unprepared for the shift in consumer activity away from PCs and laptops to mobile devices.

Despite the fact that half of respondents to the Barclay’s online business outlook survey stated they believe that 4G networks will boost mobile traffic, a startling 89% confirm they still have not yet developed their website for mobile devices.

.tel us what you do!

In today’s competitive business landscape, it pays to communicate quickly and easily with customers and prospective customers. That’s especially true of customers operating in the mobile world!

We’ve already seen how social media has transformed the way small businesses are able to keep customers informed about what’s hot, what’s on offer, and special deals.

Now small business owners are using their Telnames .tel mobile-friendly websites to ‘bring everything together’ and make it easy for customers using mobile Internet to not only find all their key contact details like phone numbers and email, but all their social media links too.

Clearly, with the number of mobile consumers set to rise yet again in 2013 thanks to super fast 4G, establishing a mobile-friendly online .tel business listing is a key step to ensuring your business is prepared to maximise every opportunity.
